Girls Inc. of the Valley hosts Girl Day 2025 at Holyoke City Hall
Girls Inc. of the Valley hosted Girl Day 2025 at Holyoke City Hall as part of Engineer Week.
The event commenced with a guided tour of City Hall, followed by a gathering in the City Council Chamber. Mayor Joshua A. Garcia delivered a proclamation to a room full of Girls Inc. participants, emphasizing the importance of empowering young girls in STEM.
Girls Inc. of the Valley Senior Director of STEM, Laura Ross, highlighted the importance of such events, stating, “It was wonderful to see them here in City Hall today and to get to be front and center and again to be able to kind of picture themselves. And this is something that they could do in their future, that they can really make a difference and that they have so many options.”
Assistant City Engineer for the city of Holyoke, Victoria Houle, emphasized the need for more women in STEM, noting, “It is an underrepresented field, and women are natural leaders and problem solvers. And true innovation requires the creative and different perspectives that women have an edge to bringing to the industry.”
Youth chatted one-on-one with the mayor, explored his office, and even sat at his desk, envisioning themselves as future leaders in his position. To check out more highlights from the event be sure to click the links below:
